A distant call for 'balance'

I have nothing to say about this film, as I have not seen it. I would like to see it, however the deluge of (highly) contradictory reviews at this site hinder any attempts at closure as far as my decision is concerned. Be lucky that you may expend time lamenting (or praising) this film for the mere price of three of your American dollars (rental). The rest of the world (i.e. Us) have to buy and then decide whether or not it's a pile of celluloid offal. Do not complain so vacuously so often. criticism and/or praise is good, but if your intention in writing a review is directed at helping other people 'sift out' their cinematic choices (as opposed to showing off the little grey cells or alternately becoming reactionary toward other people's snotty intellectual vanities etc.) then at least bother to write something balanced (ish) and less pontificatory. Thank you so much.

If you like french movies, intellectual movies, hidden meanings, and also movies you have to think about even days after you saw it well you have to see it. It is a real piece of art and a personal achievement for Godard.

Umm...
IMDB is a forum - anyone is welcome to post on it. This results in a broad range of different interests and views and there is nothing you can do about it (but getting upset or frustrated is harldy worth your time). If you are looking for movie reviews to serve as a basis for future purchases or rentals, then this is not the place to look. However, there are plenty of other sites at your exposal to utilize.

If you want balance, buy a scale. If you have nothing to say about the film, say nothing. Or screen it, and then say nothing ... or something.
Film critics (as opposed to film reviewers) do not pontificate. They are not popes. Gutenberg didn't invent the DVD, but anyone can watch one and form their own view. Of course their view may be stupid, but at least they saw a film and formed a perspective. To borrow an Italian neorealist stance, film criticism occurs in an open city.
Le Mepris is all about icons and the deconstruction of icons.
Homer, Greco-Roman mythology, Fritz Lang, Bardot -- all icons of a sort.
Wrestling beneath the iconography we find a crass American movie producer and an irresolute French writer.
That doesn't say much about what happens during the running time, and that's fine. That's a job for film reviewers, most of whom are no better than short order cooks for a fastfood mentality.
So see Godard's Le Mepris, or don't. It's a better use of time than complaining about forum posts that make your head hurt, I know that much.

Steve Gutenberg didn't invent the dvd?

No you fool it was Dan Qwail, right after he finished with the internet!

I defend 'noilie'. He/she is not moping miserably, so why should he/she have to go elsewhere as 'WhenWasWhere' obnoxiously suggested? Why should one not express one's feeling - it sounds genuine enough, more genuine than many reviewers and critics sound. He calls fo balance. This is not the same as politeness or tact towards the film-makers. It means using all your brain, not just bile, not just indulgence, the whole bit.

Hopefully, his comment will open SOME minds.
