Does anyone know if the Italian DVD or VHS releases of this movie have the score by Piero Piccioni instead of the Georges Delerue score? I love this film and can't imagine it without Delerue's music. Also, does anyone know the story behind why the Italian version had the Piccioni score prepared in the first place? Thanks very much.
shareThe italian/second version of this movie is a different cut ordered by its prudecer carlo ponti, as he thought the original version was too sophisticated for the average intellect. In this second version the movie is stripped of its multi layer subtle beauty and is totally raped for the consumption and use of the mass public. The Ponti cut of le Mepris has a different score, changed to a more upbeat contemporary sound and the translation of the secretary is dubbed to a simple commentary of what Pallance is saying, so there go the translations, and so on. So in other words this movie goes from being an iconic masterpiece to a commercial commodity. Irony this happened with Le Mepris, and if you saw it you know what I mean..
