The score sounds familiar

I watched this movie for the first time th other day (finishing out my Criterion Collection of Jean-Luc Godard) and the score sounds very familiar. Would I have heard that before in another film (possibly as an homage) or is it from a certain composer and am not thinking of it? It sounds so familiar but I just can't seem to place it.

Aha! I was wondering that too.

Does anyone know if the music in Contempt included the snare drum that it did in Casino? I thought that really made the song in Casino, as the tension picks up for the desert meeting.

It's a score that everyone can relate with thats probably why it sounds familiar. Possibly the most beautiful score ever composed for a film and as said by another user, it was used in "Casino."

The music can also be heard in the alternate score to the uncut workprint version of Francis Ford Coppola's "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (1992) where Mina and Vlad introduce themselves to each other on a London street.
