Is this worth a blind buy?

I was wondering if the criterion edition of this is worth a blind buy? I have seen BREATHLESS and BAND OF OUTSIDERS and loved them both, so to anyone who has seen this film or owns the DVD, can you give your opinion please?

Respect the cock, and tame the *beep*

Well, I just happened to pick up the Criterion disc the other day (got it as a trade at a second hand DVD store) and, being a huge Godard fan, I had no qualms about picking it up sight unseen... I know lots of "critics" practically salivate at the mention of the title...

That said, I don't think this would be one of my favorite Godards... I think the movie is more for people who like to pontificate about movies rather than people who just want to enjoy them...

There is certainly a lot to admire about this movie... great cinematography, great performances... but I don't think it really "entertains" on the level of Breathless or Alphaville or Pierrot Le Fou. Do I regret my purchase? No. Will I watch the movie again? Certainly... I may even enjoy it more after seeing it a few more times. Would I recommend it to anyone who is not familiar with Godard's work? Probably not.

Still looking forward to seeing Band Of Outsiders and Weekend... those 2 classics have eluded me thus far...

Week-End has yet to be released on DVD, but Band of Outsiders has been released by Criterion. I have never seen it in stores, though.

Well, this was a blind buy for me as well, based on my deep admiration for both A Bout de Souffle and Band A Part (also Une Femme est Une Femme). And what a wonderful surprise ! I don't think you'll be dissapointed at all. A great film to add to you Godard collection.

To be honest I don't know why people like "week-end" so much, to me it's just a piece of crap that's all too eager to shock.

I blind bought it and could not have been more satisfied with it. Hahaha I didn't see this post was in 2005. Oh well I guess your decision has already been made.

My three favorite films (order changes): Vertigo, Taxi Driver, and 2001: A Space Odyssey
