Why does Francesca constantly reiterate everything that Prokosch says?
On my DVD the English subtitles often differ quite drastically from what the English audio says. Does anyone know why this is so? Seeing as the dialogue is mainly in English, it's not as though it would have to be translated.
I've just noticed that the film was made in 1963, yet I'm sure in the movie the year is stated as being 1965. Any reason for this?

if you were watching it in the English soundtrack, the reason 'Francesca constantly reiterates everything that Prokosch says' is because in the French version she is translating between Lang and Prokosch; so therefore with the English dubbing it would be in english anyway and would just sound silly - but they had to match the words to the lips of the actors so they had to come up with *something* for her to say. it is annoying, and so it is much better to watch it in the french.
that would probably explain the subtitles difference as well.

You're closer than you think. It is true that she is translating for the producer; however, it is too "some kind of obscure message about communication." Consider the "translating" of classic Homer into modernity, film as a means of translating ideas and/or emotions, the way characters "translate" to one another, and the ending: the word "silence" spoken in 3 - 4 languages.

What did Camille actually despise her husband for? Leaving her alone with Jerry it seems to imply, but why would a woman make that despise her husband for?
It is set in 1963.
Near the beginning, Paul is telling Jack Palance's character about Lang escaping Nazi Germany in 1933, with Palance responding, "Well .... this is 1963!"
