Is this her best movie?

Both racist Bardot (recently convicted (May, 2008) of hate speech against Muslims for the fifth time in a French court of law) and this turkey of a film deserve to be bottom-of-the-barrel gunk.

Probably. She was a great sex symbol who became a myth by retiring early in her career, but was not a great actress, neither starred in plenty of good films.

I don't think Brigitte Bardot is necessarily the "most talented actress ever" but I don't doubt that she is one of the greatest actresses to have graced the silver screen. It is a shame how still at her youth she decided to quit her career, had she stayed as an actress to this day she may have even made more serious films such as Catherine Deneuve das.

I think that when you are watching a Brigitte Bardot film you aren't necessarily watching it for her "talent" but rather for her presence. She captures attention like no other and it is actually very entertaining to see her on the screen.

Now to answer your question (7 years later) I would have to say that her "best" film in displaying her talents is Viva Maria for which she was nominated a BAFTA award for. That and I would also recommend taking a look at the three disk set which includes 5 of her films, the best one I think would be "Love on a Pillow" which she plays a more dramatic role in, then I would say "Come Dance With Me" a comedy, then "the Vixen" a comedy, "Two Weeks in September" which kind of goes all over the place, and finally "Naughty Girl" a comedy.

I've only seen a few of her films as few Brigitte Bardot dvds/blurays are made for region 4 (Australia etc.), but from what I have seen, And God Created Woman was her best and most enjoyable. But her best performance, cinematography film and script-to-work-with are La Verite and Contempt.
