He appeared in a lot of John Wayne's (and other) movies as a character actor but he nearly always had brief parts with few lines. Fortunately in this movie he had more lines and we got to enjoy him. He was also outstanding as Mose Harper in The Searchers where he had a bigger part.

On an interview for something or other he also sang and he sang beautifully. It was amazing to see his talent in that way also.
