Do you think they should 'special edition' this?

The way George Lucas did with SW in the 90s. Now, if that *was* actually done with this film, I think the *only* thing I'd "enhance" would be removing the strings seen on the harpies.

What do you think?

Maybe some wire-removal and motion blurring, but the original should be widely available as well. And no CGI over Harryhausen's work. That would just be plain disrespectful.

reply

*Hellz* no.

A special edition wouldl be welcome.

Definitely should be a special edition BUT not with cgi to replace Harryhausens animation but like i said on Rays page .....wire removal, picture sound clean up and better compositing of the creatures into the foreground [that would have to be done with a bit of cgi].

Look at the crab in Mysterious island. The animation is fine but the way the creature is blended in with the scenery and characters looks terrible now. things like that should be improved to bring out the best in Rays animation.

NO,NO,NO, George Lucas Special Edition type of DVD because this animation still rocks, the monsters in this movie made my skin crawl immensely something I cannot say with recent CGI fare like Clash of the Titans. Watching this today I realize how the world lost a genius in the stop motion field.

The Star Wars special editions were pretty bad; CGI had improved by the time Spielberg redid E.T.; both were so reviled by fans that it's fallen out of fashion (like colorization before it).

The problem with old movies in HD is that the flaws become more apparent... though the flaws in this film's effects are few. Cleanup is one thing but if they were to redo this one, they'd doubtlessly want to "improve" the stop-motion work with CGI, which would thoroughly destroy the charm of the film.
