How about a pre-quel?

Get younger actors to play Tracy, Durante, Demerest...show Grogan and his men planning the heist, with Culpepper and his men constantly on the trail, and the end result being that Grogan has gotten away with it and Culpepper swearing that one day he will solve the case. Populate the film with the best of today's comedians and veteran comedians in cameos, just like the original. What do you all think? Nobody can complain that a film like this shouldn't be remade, because it's not a remake. Know what I mean?

That's rather intriguing....

I...like that!

It would be helpful to know if Grogan had served any time. Had he just been paroled but the police figured he would make a break for the buried loot the first chance he got and thus a tail was put on him? Or had Grogan never served any time because the police didn't have enough evidence on him but suspected him of complicity in the robbery. Had a tail been on Grogan for the previous 15 years and if so what finally compelled Grogan to make a break, perhaps because he knew he was getting older and wanted a chance to enjoy the money while he still could.

Film it as a noir. Coen Bros. Film ends when The Smiler goes 'sailing right out there'. Tommy Lee Jones as Culpepper, Steve Buscemi as The Smiler and Paul Giamatti as William Demarest. This time with more detail on "the houses".

When I read Buscemi and Giamatti, It triggered my occasional acid reflux. In other words, I just threw up in my mouth. This classic iconic film doesn't need a prequel, a sequel or a reboot.
