Irma, More Hollywood, than Paris

The characters in Irma La Douce are no more French than the fries at McDonalds. They were hung up by moral conventions that would never phase characters in a Godard or Truffaut film. Every time Howard McNear appeared I wondered why he wasn't back in Mayberry cutting hair.

Still all of that could have been forgiven if the film were funnier, which it isn't. More silly than funny.

You are so right. Americanised French is hardly the same as being French.
