Larry McMurtry's book HORSEMAN, PASS BY. Chapter one first paragraph;
For dessert that night Halmea made a big freezerful of peach ice cream, rich as Jersey milk and thick with hunks of sweet, locker-plant Albertas.
When I was young growing up in Texas most people out of the city had a freezer locker. They were rented to store slaughtered beef and hogs, butter, cheese and fruit. In
HUD or the Book
HORSEMAN, PASS BY, these are the last of the peaches from their rented storage freezer locker. They state that it was like something seasonal that you wait for a long time. Meaning it is a rare treat. They must have been special for them to go to all the trouble to prepare them for freezing, canning takes a lot of the flavour out of peaches. Hope this helps Stirchley.
