One of Homer's last lines ***spoiler ***

When Homer is dying, I wasn't sure what he said.
It sounded like "Hud, DAD'S waiting on me and he isn't a patient man"

But closed captions had it as "HUD'S dad is waiting on me and he isn't a patient man."

If the 1st scenario is correct, it would just imply that Homer was going to be reunited with his own dad.

If closed caption is correct, it would seem to imply Homer isnt Huds dad. But I don't see this hinted to anywhere in the movie. Unless that could explain the animosity Homer had towards Hud since before the brother died by Huds reckless drunk driving.

Which is the correct version?

Neither. It's "Hud there's waiting on me... And he isn't a patient man."

Mervyn Douglas pronounced "Hud there's waiting" as "Hudthedwaiting", which can sound like "Hud dad's waiting". He was dying so his mumbling can be excused. :D

In the novel ('Horseman, Pass By' by Larry McMurtry), Hud is Homer's step-son (and much smaller and nastier than the movie Hud).

In the movie, Hud is his biological son. This is confirmed through an angry exchange between Hud and Homer over Homer's bitter speculation over how he landed Hud as his son. This is just after Homer went to Hud's room and learned that Hud was trying to hijack the ranch from him through the legal system.
