Melvyn Douglas sitting on rock

Just watched this movie and I loved it, but this one scene bugged me. About 30 minutes into the movie, when Hud's father is sitting on a rock, talking about possibly selling the sick cows to someone, the rock he's sitting on seems to only be under 1/2 of his body. It doesn't appear that he could possibly sit that way. It looks like an optical illusion. Can someone explain how they did that?

That is hilarious! He barely even has half a cheek on that thing! Melvyn Douglas: King of Balance.

Seriously though, it's possible to sit and balance that way. Amazingly, Melvyn Douglas won an Oscar, even though his acting was half-@ssed.

Interesting catch...it appears that they set up a wire for him to sit on...rocks is hell on hemorrhoids..

:D He wasn't sitting on it. He was leaning against it while crouching.
