No leading actor today would have the balls to star in a similar role

And Newman pulled out a great performance, one of his best.

Why not? Most would probably love to - especially as Hud ain't so bad compared to some vile creatures that've been crawling around the screens during the past half a century. Newman was indeed great though.

Newman is one of the most talented actors. I don't agree at all. There are some characters that's a lot worse than Hud.
