very adult film for it's time
sure they aren't showing everything but it doesn't take a keenly perceptive person to get what they're talking about sometimes in the film.
Yes, because life was simple and slow, and people were innocent. Never mind the catastrophic global economic depression, twenty million killed in a worldwide war, the A-bombs, etc. that they lived through--they were basically much less hip and mature than we are today at our zenith of awareness.
