The creepiest line in history (spoiler)
"Who's hand was I holding!"
shareCreepy but not sure I would say this would be the creepiest line though. I actually wish they had included a more drawn history telling by the Dr in Hill House when the group has their meal in the movie as happened in the book.
It was really creepy as the characters listen.

for me the creepiest were the last few lines: "Hill House has stood for 90 years and might stand for 90 more. Within, walls continue upright, bricks meet...floors are firm, and doors are sensibly shut. Silence lies steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House. And we who walk here walk alone."
its actually kind of sad lines coming from ealnor, because you think that she might have found peace at hill house, but then she says she "walks alone" there, not even the ghosts as company. of course it could just poetic, but perhaps literal? don't know. just one of the creepiest ghost stories ive seen!
Realism, Remakes and Unnecessary Sequels are ruining movies!

I said in another thread that, even after 50 years I still sleep with both hands under the covers every night.
Just in case...
"No fate but what we make." -Terminator II
"Who's hand was I holding!"
Creepy for sure, but I knew she wasn't holding Theo's hand the whole time.
Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!
I love that line. But I think my favorite from the movie is in Markway's beginning monologue when he says the house was "built 80 odd, very odd, years ago". I don't know why but the very odd kills me it's so damn funny!
shareThat one scared the bejeezus out of me too but the line that still gives me shivers might not be a "line" in the strictest sense. It was when Elenore was diving away hits the tree. There is a quick cut back to the exterior of the house and we hear a very contented sigh - "Aaaaahhh" as if the house was finally happy, for now. If fact there should be a thread here, not for the camera work, the acting , the screenplay or the directing but for the sound. I think the sound effects made this movie more than anything else.
shareThat did it for me! Total creep out! To this day I will not sleep with my hand hanging over the side of the bed.
