WhyThe Winter Clothing When It's Only Early August ... ?

The story takes place in August; Dr. Markway evens mentions an upcoming anniversary which indicates that the story is set in early August and yet everyone is wearing winter clothing. Theo (Claire Bloom) even arrives wearing a leopard coat. I know it's suppose to be a creepy old cold house etc but nowhere in Massachusetts is it cold enough in early August to require anyone to wear heavy winter clothing.

I notice everyone dresses in long sleeves and multiple layers of clothing no matter what time of year it is. Maybe I'm crazy but I think it looks classier and more elegant even if it would get hot.

"but that's today!".

"No, tomorrow - and ninety years later".

The novel is set in late June; I think Eleanor arrives at the house on June 21.

But the movie occurs in October.

Which means that the date that the inscription is read should be 20 October 1963.

I think they filmed it in England and it was extremely cold at the time. Which was why everyone was bundled up.

It obviously should have taken weeks or months to film.

IMDB gives a filming date of 1 October 1962.

That could be the first or the last day of filming. 1962 was before global warming started to be really noticeable, and English people and actors were used to dressing warmly most of the year.
