commentary

Looking at all the versions available on Amazon including a BluRay from 2013 I find none that list a commentary. The first reviewer named Paulo mentioned the excellent commentary by the actors most of whom I believe are still alive or were at the time of the DVD. Does anyone know how or where to obtain this DVD that includes the commentary? I looked up the reviewer who it turns out lives in Portugal, so there may be a special version DVD playable in Europe only. But why would English actors do a special commentary that never shows up in the US? And why would the producers of the DVD fail to include the commentary on new versions of the DVD? Does anyone have any information about a DVD version that includes a commentary and is available for playing in the US? Where may I purchase it?

The commentary is on the U.S. version of the DVD. It's mostly recollections by Richard Johnson, who played Dr. Markway, but does include a little from Julie Harris, Russ Tamblyn, Clair Bloom and director Robert Wise. It's not a scene-specific commentary, but more about their memories of acting and making the film. Julie reveals that she was actually depressed during the time of the film, perhaps in keeping with her character of Nell, and stayed aloof from the rest of the players, which seemed to confuse them. Tamblyn reveals a "ghostly" experience he had in the cemetery behind the house. They discuss the toning down of the lesbian relationship. Wise reveals how the door bends. Hope that helps, Randy.
