Pretty Good Film Suitable for Most Viewers

Latest Halloween viewing was The Haunted Palace, a movie with a title taken from Edgar Allan Poe and a story from H. P. Lovecraft. Vincent Price expertly plays a sort of Jekyll and Hyde character as a mild-mannered man possessed by his evil great-great grandfather. It is really two characters for the price of one. One can find faults in almost any movie but overall I think this was a pretty good little haunted house flick. Four people are burned to death. Their screams are most affecting. Also there is some domestic violence by the possessed man including an attempted marital rape. For these reasons I say 13+ but except for a few things I think it could be watched by a child of ten, I guess it depends on the child.

A pretty dark film for 1964.
