I really like this film along with House Of Usher and Masque Of Red Death, i can see similarites between all 3 films.

Wasn't "Masque of the Red Death" also based on a Lovecraft story?

Masque of the Red Death is by Edgar Allan Poe.

Ha ha ... E Poe wrote it 50 years before Lovecraft was born.

If you wanna see another film with a similar plot to this one, check out Dan Curtis' NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS. I saw that first, and remember being very disappointed by the abrupt ending. Years later I saw THE HAUNTED PALACE, and noticed the similarities with a married couple moving into an ancestral home, a sinister house-keeper, a portrait of an ancestor, and the spirit of the ancestor possessing the descendant. Even the point where the couple decides they MUST leave... but one stays behind, and the other then finds-- TOO LATE-- the possession is now complete!

Where NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS ends, THE HAUNTED PALACE just begins to pick up steam and REALLY get good.

All of the Price/Corman/Poe (or in this case Lovecraft) movies are incredibly entertaining - in fact, Pit and the Pendulum alternates as my favourite movie of all time (its a constant battle between P&tP and the 1931 Dracula)

Anyway, I high;y recomend checking out Pit and the Pendulum if you like these flicks - its the best of the bunch IMO.

EXACTLY. THE HOUSE OF USHER , THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM, THE RAVEN, MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH, DIARY OF A MADMAN, TOMB OF LIGEIA, TALES OF TERROR AND TWICE TOLD TALES ARE VINCENT PRICE'S BEST MOVIES, AND TO ME, MY FAVORITE HORROR MOVIES OF ALL TIME. THE ARE ALL SIMILAR IN THEIR ENDINGS AS WELL AS IT SEEMS LIKE WITH ALL ROGER CORMAN MOVIES, THERE IS ALWAYS A BIG FIRE AT THE END AND THE MUSIC AND THE SCENES ARE PHENOMENAL..
