Watch On the Beach after Dr. Strangelove

I guess you could watch On the Beach after just about any movie about thermonuclear warfare, but it seems to fit the period very well. Go from black comedy to somber tragic drama. Just an idea for a double feature night.

For younger viewers who watch Dr. Strangelove because they've heard it's funny - and don't find it so - to send them off to On the Beach would probably cause them to become apoplectic and go out and do somebody in.

I prefer the Strangelove-Fail Safe connection. Both are fine movies; one satirical, one pretty nerve-wracking. Talking about the 1964 Fail Safe, not the unfortunate year 2000 version.

True, Fail Safe is a great film. I've read the book as well. Larry Hagman and Henry Fonda were wonderful during their phone calls to the Soviet Premier. I actually thought the live 2000 version was decent. The concept of a live airing was appealing. I remember watching it on its debut with Walter Cronkite's introduction. What did you not like about it?

I mentioned On the Beach merely because it's the aftermath of nuclear exchange. Wonderful film but I agree with your point!

And Failsafe with Henry Fonda.
