Tom Petty!

Did he get inspiration from this movie? Louise tells Richard to spend time with his fiancee, saying, "...especially an american girl. You can tell she's been raised on promises."

I don't know, but I'm betting he did. That's too good a line to be a coincidence. Great bit of trivia, nonetheless.

I don't like that song at all, but I caught the line right away.
I really don't think that Mr. petty has seen this movie and if he did I don't think he would steal such an insignificant line from it, but who knows, he's famous, and so is Coppola, maybe they're pals?!

reply

Perhaps that used to be an old saying, that American kids were raised on promises. ???

Not only American girls but whole citizenry of the US has always been and is being raised on empty promises, even today!

It is actually part of the trivia that he did get his inspiration from this movie but I'm not sure where that info came from it is on the Internet that it happened tho so who knows...

Tom Petty's Wikipedia page for the song American Girl makes mention of Dementia 13 being an influence and I seem to remember that this was an influence for the song American Girl on some tv biography.

I'm a doctor and I slept in a Holiday Inn Express last night so I think I know what I'm talking about, unless I don't. Perhaps, maybe, but I'm pretty sure I'd say.
