Having never been to Paris...
When the exterior shots are filmed in Paris, why are there leaves on the ground when it is the beginning of May?

shareI'm not sure why you think it's the beginning of May. At the beginning of the film, Inspector Grandpierre looks into his drawer with some notes about Charles Lampert's murder; the date on the form beside his Swiss passport is "5/11/63" which in Europe would be "November 5, 1963".
shareWatched the movie again. I saw the list to which you are referring. The number at the bottom of the paper does look like an 11. However, at the top, it seems to be a 4. And there is even a close-up of the paper later on in the movie. It is definitely a 4.
shareSo if not November than it would be April. But I guess when they were filming over winter they weren't gonna clear up all the leaves in the park/streets
