Song Question

What's the title of the song where Cary Grant is chasing Audrey Hepburn in the subway station when she's trying to meet Dial? I've always loved that song. Thank you!

It isn't any particular song; it's just part of Henry Mancini's overall score for Charade. The chase sequence begins with the film's main theme, then moves into musical shadings that underscore the scene's dramatic tension.

Mancini was DA MAN.

Good movies have scores composed according to the story.

Mediocre movies have scenes where action goes on, while the entire soundtrack is some top-40 tune. They don't even have to record any sound. It's way, way easier to do it that way, and it's the hallmark of a cheap piece of commerce.

FWIW, one of the best scored movies I've ever seen is "The High and the Mighty", an early airline thriller from the fifties with John Wayne and Robert Stack.

Perhaps the best "proof" of an effective score for me was in the movie Apollo 13. Before I saw the movie, I heard an interview with composer John Williams, and they played part of it. In my mind's eye, I pictured the astronauts taking the walk up the gantry to the capsule, with vertical tracking shots of the rocket ready to launch.

When I finally saw the movie for the first time, it turns out that what I imagined, was exactly what was going on, on the screen. That's what you call some good music writing. That movie still gives me strong emotional, physical reactions.
