Theater trap doors by the dozen are pure fantasy

Just to move the facts from more obscure locations; No, there is not a theater in the real world that has a stage comprised of dozens of trap doors. It would be incredibly dangerous, and a total pain in arse to maintain properly.

There are stages with moving platforms, orchestra pits and other animated features, but there is zero need for a grid of human sized trap doors over the entire expanse of a stage.

Many trap doors are simply engineered into the floor for a certain production, then sealed up solid again for the next show - custom fittings work much better than a swiss cheese floor!

Neat movie, but this move to a total fantasy environment by the director simply to be unique, ruins it a bit for me.

It's a good idea, but unrealistic? So what...

It's not "sci-fi", it's SF!
