Roof Top Fight

Watching the film again, I enjoyed much of it, but one thing gobsmacked me - the fight on the roof top between Cary and George. It's not that Cary is almost 60 or that they're a tad slow moving. No, it's the music. It's so slow it's like a lullaby. Nowdays, such a fight would have really amped up music, pounding on the attacks and defenses, and I think it would be a slight improvement.

You don't think 'amped up' music would be very out of place here?

The roof top fight sequence holds up quite well. I was surprised at how intense it was the first time I watched Charade, particularly Cary's physical abilities (since he was almost 60). It's one of my favorite moments from this film (one of many).

"Now what kind of man are YOU dude?"

but at one point, when George throws Cary from the roof and he is "hanging" for his life, it looks so obvious he is comfortably standing on something.

I don't remember Grant looking like he was standing on something; but when I saw the movie I thought, "Wow, for a film usually described as 'frothy,' this fight scene is pretty intense."

I vote no on the amped up music and pounding. This film had a beautifully understated soundtrack which added to the film and never distracted from it. Today's soundtracks are often loud, obnoxious and overpowering. The worst ones of today feature rap and/or hip hop (if there is any difference between the two). If I am watching a film and I hear rap and/or hip hop, I immediately shut it off.

That kind of beat-heavy ""music" wasn´t around yet. And the theme tune is in 3/4 time, in other words a waltz -- which most of you have never heard in your music-deprived lives.

The music in that scene was certainly a refreshing change of pace (and there was no suspense lost). It reminded me how corny the music is during fight scenes in other films, as well as TV shows.

Mag, Darling, you're being a bore.

Charade is not an action movie, and if anything, this scene offers a touch of parody.
