Inspector Grandpierre = Hercule Poirot?

Okay is it just me or does there seem to be a (possibly deliberate) similarity between the character of Inspector Grandpierre and Agatha Christie's famous sleuth Hercule Poirot? The moustaches are not quite so flamboyant but otherwise I thought the two were quite alike.

Oh God. There's nothing more inconvenient than an old queen with a head cold!

I agree. I also wonder if it was intentional. Certainly puts you in the mind of the Agatha detective.

Loved his character. It added the right spice to the film.

Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

Poirot was much smarter, though.

Way smarter. Grandpierre's main reason for being in the film was to be exasperated over the behavior of Hepburn and Grant. πŸ˜€

And what exactly did Grandpierre do to solve the case? Nothing!
