35 yr. old Leigh playing a high school student

Can anyone else think of a similar situation in other movies, where a much older actor plays a high school student?

reply

I think you've got her mixed up with Ann Margret. Ann Margret was 18 and she played the high school student. Leigh played Dick Van Dyke's girlfriend/business partner. However, Conrad Birdie seemed way too old as the young, hot rock star.

The Nutty Professor (original and best with Jerry Lewis) is a good example where some the college students look to be in their mid-40s...

Ann Margaret was 22, not 18, playing a high school student (does the play specify 15?).

Practically the entire cast of Grease who were in their early to late 20s, but especially Stockard Channing, who was 33 playing a high school senior. My friends like to joke that when Rizzo missed her period it wasn't because she suspected she was pregnant but because she was going through menopause. XD

How about Maureen Stapleton playing Dick Van Dyke's mother when they were both born in 1925?

In The Blackboard Jungle there are a lot of long in the tooth high school students.

College enrollment is not age specific. There are plenty of 40+ year olds in college.

She doesn't play a high school student. Her would-be mother-in-law considers her a spinster too old even for Dick Van Dyke, who's no spring chicken.

And in the lyrics of her song, Ann-Margaret reminisces about being 15 as an awkward phase in her past. She's playing at least 16.

"I'll book you. I'll book you on something. I'll find something in the book to book you on."

Julie Harris in the 1952 movie The Member of the Wedding was to me totally ridiculous as she played a 12 year old girl and she was actually 27. What also was ridiculous was she got an Oscar nomination. I thought it was a farce but many like the movie so to each their own.

Because these actors play younger doesn't mean it always works.

and I disagree that an actor needs to be experienced to the point of being in their 30's in order to be capable of handling a big production. It happens all the time.

She wasn't the high school student, Ann-Margaret was. She was Dick Van Dyke's girlfriend.

Judd Nelson was 27 in The Breakfast Club.
