I wonder how Kate punished the girls when they were younger. They already had no TV, no phone, no electronic devices, etc. And, they were already doing chores. LOL. Kate must have done something right because her daughters listened to her and respected her.

Could be anything - come inside right after school, no reading books other than school work, no radio, no hanging out with friends..
Remember also that today's parents not only have to deal with their kids, but the undisciplined kids who influence their kids. I was a child during those years, and back then, most kids were good kids who respected authority.
It's a different world.
