Floyd and Wendell matrix...

Could someone sort out Floyd's departure (Was this acknowledged?), Wendell's first appearance as conductor (and last), Floyd's re-appearance (Was it acknowledged that he was replacing Wendell, or that he had even been gone?) OR...Was this just another one of those situations (common on the show) where different actors took over roles and no explanation was given as to the whys and wherefores of the respective transition...

Well, when Floyd announced his retirement it was stated that no one else was qualified to run the train, except for Betty Jo who sometime filled in, unofficially. No one mentioned Wendell, who ran the train for a season, and Uncle Joe self appointed himself new conductor.

At the end, Floyd decided not to retire completely and returned as conductor.

Poor Wendell, no one acknowledged his existence in that episode.
