The Cry Of Silence (aka The Killer Weeds Episode)

Every so often I re-watch a Limits ep on DVD, but when I get to Cry Of Silence I always have the same reaction: "I can't watch that woman again".

Despite the totally way out story of weeds attacking a middle aged couple in the deserted outback, the ep is a load of fun and good science fiction. Eddie Albert does his very best to bring reality to the hour.

But it is the casting of Albert's wife that is the problem! I know women were seen differently on TV in the 1960s, but the screaming lady is a total pain.

She is even in shock (and has to leave the room) when Albert calmly attempts to sort out the farmer/alien!

Would this hour of been a bit better with a different female lead?

Definitely. But the blame had to go the director, who should have been telling her to dial it back some; instead of expressing appropriate fear and concern, she went for bug-eyed hysteria. Albert is excellent in this episode and manages to raise it up to at least a moderately interesting hour. Not one of the best episodes, but not the worst either.
