Is there something wrong with my TV?

For some reason I can't adjust the picture. I can't control the horizontal. I can't control the vertical. Sometimes the image rolls.. or flutters. Sometimes the focus changes to a soft blur or sharpens to crystal clarity.

HELP!

Sit quietly.
There is nothing wrong with your set.
You are participating in a great adventure.
You are experiencing awe and mystery.

There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to – The Outer Limits.

You can't palm off a second-rater on me. You gotta remember I was in the pink!

This intro, where an apparent alien presence took over my family's TV, would send me running out of the room when I saw the first broadcasts at age eight.

But I must admit, at my older age, that I kinda wish the Control Voice had just once said, "And if there IS something wrong with your television set, kick it a couple of times. That's what I do."

Good One!

Laugh while you can, Monkey Boy!

Yes...everything is in BLACK AND WHITE!

reply

Black and White makes it far more scarier IMHO!

Funny thing is, there was frequently something wrong with our old black'n'white TV. Reception depended on moving the "rabbit ears" antenna on the top of the set to the best position and hoping for an image of "crystal clarity" which almost never happened. I thought it was nervy of Vic Perrin to assume that there was nothing wrong with OUR TV!

reply

LOL!!! That is so true. Not to mention adding some aluminum foil to the rabbit ears to improve the reception. 

Yeah, those were the days...and back then we even played in the back yard and were happy with the minimal electronic entertainment that we had...
