I was reading the user reviews for this.

I was studying for my film test today. After the viewing, I was thinking, what was that? I thought it was slow and ultimately had nothing much to say. I loved 'L'Avventura' and saw much more in that film. I know most Antonioni films require at least two viewings, but after reading the reviews and picking up on the themes he was trying to get across, I started to have a new found respect for it. I'll watch it again when I get a chance.

I wrote a good essay on it for my test.

"We played with life and lost." - Jules et Jim, François Truffaut.

I think it's hard to analyze an Antonioni film. They often defy explanation... He's strictly about telling the story visually and not using dialogue. It's atmosphere-heavy and you have to let swish around in your system a little while before you can understand it better... Believe me, L'Eclisse is rich with Antonioni's feelings and ideas. Think about the way objects - man-made creations - are taking over humans. Scientific man is advancing great strides, while moral man is way behind. It goes along with the nuclear crisis at the time. Countries build these massive nukes, but don't have the human capacity to work out the conflicts between each other. So what what can happen then?... The ending of the film addresses that... That might help you understand the film better, but there's more to it than that.
