Piero is on medication?

What medication is he taking in the bedroom phone hangup scene? What's the significance of it because there's a close up shot of it?

reply

I htink they are sleeping pills. What potential significance of this scene do you think was intended?

reply

He has the hyperactive, action all the time "Type A" personality who can't go to sleep without medication as Vittoria tells him he can't stand still in the cafe after the stock market crash.

reply

To be precise the medication was not in pill form, but was dropped from a bottle into a glass right before he answers the phone in his apartment. I assume it is some form of sleep medication to counter what is likely uppers he took during the day.

alain Delon in fact was very persuasive as the hyperactive personality likely on drugs.

Many people are naturally manic and do not take stimulants (speed) as their neurotransmitters already contain too much dopamine and serotonin. Some are bipolar: what used to be called manic-depressive. Piero, no doubt had to take sleeping pills to counteract his high energy, hyperactive, even 'manic' personality.
