Mary Badham wish:

I wish Mary Badham would record a reading of the book. I think her voice would be just right.

Much as I love this movie, and I DO, it deserves to be delicately remade. SO MUCH of the story is missing. I think a 3 night broadcast could better accompany all the characters so desperately missing from this version.

I think Harper Lee is a national treasure.

The audiobook was done by Sissy Spacek whose reading is great!

I love Sissy Spacek but I'm not a fan of her reading of this. Only because I like the older, deeper sounding narrator. There is another audio reading on YouTube with the tones I like. I wish Kim Stanley had done an audio recording of it. Her open narration in the film is spot on.

Interesting. I'd just posted how I always think Collin Wilcox, who plays Mayella, reminds me is Sissy when she's in the Twilight Zone episode Number 12 Looks Just Like You.

Also, I think Mary Badham voices the child in the TZ episode where the two children whose parents decide to divorce go into the Bewitchin' Pool (I think) to visit the old woman who makes cakes. I thought of her when reading TKAM and Maudie makes her big scrumptious cakes and always makes smaller version for the children.

Looks like Reese Witherspoon got the job of narrating Go Set a Watchman. Interesting indeed.

Not quite right. Badham played the child on screen. Most of her dialogue was dubbed in later. I've heard two different reasons for this: one was that the producers thought her Alabama accent made her hard to understand. The second - the reason you'll find on Wikipedia - was that the audio in the outdoor scenes was compromised by ambient noise, and that audio recorded indoors was left intact.

The big kicker is who got the job of dubbing her dialogue: voiceover goddess June "Rocky the Flying Squirrel" Foray!

If you get a chance to see that TZ episode, you can't miss that the dialogue is dubbed. It's a horrendous job, just awful.

I'd rather of had Kim Stanley narrate it, but too late for that.

Isn't Rosemary Murphy, Miss Maudie, the narrator?

Unless this is wrong.

Their voices were similar though.
