Why didn't Atticus attend the school play?

At the end when Scout is in the play as a ham why didn't Atticus attend?

A new episode of The Walking Dead was on. Uncharacteristic of Atticus, I grant you but a man has to have priorities.

In the book it was explained that Atticus and Aunt Alexandra were dead tired. In the movie no explanation.
