Stupid unrealistic movie

Why he did invite that guy was explained in the movie.

About the woman's acting... Yes. Even Pola?ski called her stupid and said that she couldn't even make a simple facial expression. Also her voice is dubbed, because her own was awful.

The hitchhiker was a gorgeous blond. The husband wasn't attractive and was a jerk to her. I did miss the beginning so maybe that would have made it make more sense.

I agree. The premise and execution of the plot is very unrealistic. Particularly given that it takes place in Poland. I'm from Eastern Europe and in my plink people there are much more cautious when meeting strangers than in the western countries. This nonsense just annoys me.
It's as if people decide to like movies like this juts because it's directed by Roman Polanski. Nice cinematography doesn't necessarily make a good film.

Why would he invite a hitchhiker sailing without knowing him? This premise is admittedly unrealistic, but we need to know how to suspend our disbelief. The answer as to why he invites him makes sense thematically-to inflate his ego, and to show his alleged superiority over a seemingly stupid youngster. Would I have done the same thing? Probably not. But a film's premise is secondary to the execution.

Which brings me to "they never even bothered to introduce themselves?" No, they haven't. Big deal. I find this approach to filmgoing emetic-instead of pontificating on how unrealistic it is and why the characters do this or that, just shut up and watch the movie!

"Third, who treats each other that way right after meeting each other?" These characters. What I notice about your "criticism" is that you almost solely focus on the very beginning. Can't you get past some 5 minutes?

"Fourth, what was so attractive about the hitch-hiker that the woman was suddenly attracted to?" Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

"Which brings me on to the woman's acting. AWFUL. She was so self conscious which you could tell in the close-up scenes." Fair enough. This is pretty much my only issue with the film, and it doesn't harm it much in the long run.

Ditto! I had never heard of this movie until I watched it. Now, I wish I could go back to having never heard of it.

Watching it, I kept waiting, even hoping, something would happen; anything. It was just so boring. Then finally when something did happen it was too late. I didn't care. I couldn't care less what happened to any of these people.

I figured out it's because I never bought the premise. Why would these people bring this unknown drifter along with them on their outing? By the same token, why would he go with them? If you don't buy the premise, nothing beyond that matters.

I also thought the whole thing was a little unrealistic and unbelievable. Not a terrible movie but I expected something better.

In the movie the girl explained why he brought him - to make himself feel empowered. He had the need to constantly dominate people, including no allowing the girl to drive in the beginning and then bringing this guy to teach him how to yacht and constantly compete with him.

Then there's a sex scene. The girl did this not only because she was attracted to the guy, but as a sort of revenge. She clearly succeeded in the end.

It was a bit unrealistic, but it's a movie.
