Because any rational person goes around telling people to destroy their personal possessions.

They did not fit his logic of the universe so they must be destroyed.

Isn't that how the witch trials began? And that reasoning continued into the 1970's?

I agree. It was incredibly demeaning, especially with the cultural hindsight gained 54 years down the continuum, but Norman ends appearing like just another bullying husband of a wife who was just trying to help the spouse she loves. 🐭
