I would second what Mr Hawkins is saying. I spent a half hour touring through the garbage almost 900 items that's scheduled for release in the near future and very few if any match the scope and magnificence of this movie and score.
Incredible, isn't it? The film and the soundtrack too, were recognized at the time and moreso as time goes by, as extraordinary pieces of the filmmaker's art. I cannot learn why this "milestone" is slighted so.
I also would like to see Mutiny on the Bounty on DVD.The 1962 version with Marlon Brandy.I understand there are 2 or 3 different endings, this is one of my reasons for it being released on DVD.Please could you reply to me confirming this.Thank you.B.H.
They showed "Mutiny on the Bounty" on swedish TV yesterday. The picture quality was simply amazing with incredible sharpness and blistering colors(pretty much like the DVD-release of "Patton"). It MUST have been a restored version so i guess the DVD-release can´t be to far way.
This is probably another of the films that left the hands of MGM when Ted Turner's catalog went from MGM to Warner's. Odds are the rights are now owned by Warner's since the rights to the original version are. There is an upside to this: Warner's has been releasing some great old films lately with great transfers that are sometimes way above what MGM, Universal, Columbia, etc. are willing to offer. It's probably only a matter of time until this one comes out, since Warner's is slowly but surely releasing so many classics.
i think that Warner Bros. release the best classics on DVD. the designs and dedicated special features are super. and also they can try to push soundtracks up.
Munity on the Bounty (62) is owned by Warner Bros. and you are absolutely correct. All MGM films (except recent ones, even as far back as the 90s) like Singin' in the Rain are now owned by Warner Bros.
If you are wondering about this, the MGM catalogue is now only limited to United Artists, Orion and MGM films (from mainly 90s onwards). Hence, you will probably find that almost all of Woody Allen's films are still in their hands. A lot of the films they own, do not contain any special features expect a trailer if released on DVD.
The Bounty is to be released in SE format, next year in both R1 and R2.
Most excellent! You are referring to the 1962 "Mutiny On The Bounty" and not the Mel Gibson Anthony Hopkins "The Bounty", since that is already available on DVD. How did you get news of this??
i read it on a website. Warner has a whole lot of new releases from the classic library coming out next year. including Network 30th Anniversary Special Edition, Dog Day Afternoon, All the President's Men 30th Anniversary Special Edition, Who's afraid of Virgina Woolf? 40th Anniversary Special Edition, Ryan's Daughter, Arthur 25th Anniversary Special Edition, this and lots more.
if the 'official' dvd of this film is due next year then i can hardly, it is a magnificent film. i saw it at a cinema in the uk a few years ago and the whole experience was awesome. brando gives one of his most under rated performances, his Christian simply leaps at you when it is twenty five feet tall ! ps i purchased an aisan copy of th film and mine was intact, excellent picture and sound quality too
YaY!! I've been searching for Julius Ceasar for some time! I'm so anxious to watch it, because i've read that Brando did an excellent job as Marc Antony. I can hardly wait!!
