Where did you hear this?

I went googling after reading this and just found some short mentions in long lists.

I found this: "Mutiny on the Bounty (1962) - with a new feature-length documentary and audio commentaries"

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/mytwocentsa115.html

Also I noticed that 2001 and 3 other Kubrick films are getting SEs, which I´m pretty excited about.

I saw an item reporting the Mutiny on the Bounty DVD will be released October 10, 2006. I haven't waited for any movie this enthusiastically in years.

A half year to wait...a little long...but good to know that it will come out on DVD at all!

This is great news. I have always thought that this is Brando's greatest performance and one of the greatest films of the 1960s. Grossly under-estimated and far superior to the earlier Gable/Laughton version. All we need now is a restored DVD version of his other masterpiece, One-Eyed Jacks.

I want to warn others so they don't make the same mistake I made!!!

I just finished watching the "official" Hong Kong 2-disc DVD release of the 1962 "Mutiny On The Bounty". It is the version of the DVD with a big picture of the ship on the front cover, and the words "Mutiny On The Bounty" in bright red capital letters in the top left. The cover also features "The Castaways Pictures - Classic Collection" logo on the front at the bottom.

Anyway, now that you know what edition I'm talking about, please be warned that this is the worst quality "official release" DVD I have ever seen. In fact, it is one of the very worst quality DVDs I've ever seen - period.

Visually, it's like it was "mastered" from an ex-rental VHS cassette that was played one too many times. Audio wise, I suppose it's not too bad, I've heard worse...

But also note that there are NO EXTRAS on this 2-disc set, the reason is that the film is just under 3 hours long, and has been cheaply mastered to 2x single layer discs!

How on earth this could be called an "official" release is totally beyound my comprehension!

Yes it's an awesome movie, and yes it really is better than the earlier version, but I urge you to only buy this incredibly poor quality edition if it is increadibly cheap!

I will definitely be buying the US release when it comes out, and at that point I'll throw this Hong Kong edition into the trash where it belongs!!!!
