mutiny on the bounty

For all of those who bought the new DVD version of MOTB, there is an error either in copying the original or there is a problem with the studio who created the new DVD. I will explain. I own the VHS version on MGM label with a total running time of 196 minutes or 3hr and 16m, while the new release on DVD is only 165 minutes or 3hr. and 5min! There are 11 minutes missing on the new DVD version. Would anyone like to explain that!

I've watched the new WB DVD, and I'm very familiar with the film (and I also have the MGM VHS version). I found the film to be complete (I also enjoyed seeing the separately included prologue and epilogue, though I understand now why they were deleted before the film's original release).

I've noted on many occasions that the packaging information for tapes and DVDs is often incorrect. In particular, any information involving numbers (such as running times or aspect ratios) is apt to be suspect.

I'm certain I would have remembered a scene that had now disappeared, and, as I said, I found this beautifully restored version (from the original 65mm negative) on the DVD to be complete in every respect.

Just a wild guess: Could someone have pulled from the files a running time that included the prologue and epilogue? While these were never in the theatrical film, they were included in the version first shown on television. Perhaps this is the root of the confusion. Or perhaps someone included (or didn't include) as part of the running time the overture and entr'acte.

As someone who loves this film, I would not be amused if an announced "restored" version was imcomplete. But in fact the DVD seems complete in every respect. The text on the packaging (whether for the VHS or the DVD) is, of course, another matter. I've found I can't trust that.

I have to agree. I did not notice anything out of the ordinary. The film appeared complete.

My DVD clocked in at 185 minutes, and I didn't notice anything missing.
