Taken by itself, I thought the film was very good - I even liked Brando's accent and take on the character of Fletcher.
If you don't read the negative reviews and just watch the film, it is actually a very well made, well acted, well paced film that is quite exciting.
Brando imbues Christian with something deeper.

Yeah, I prefer this version to the Laughton/Gable one. This film may not be historically accurate but it has a lot more depth than the earlier version. Both Christian and Bligh are more rounded characters-Bligh isn't a sadist who enjoys seeing his crew suffer and Christian isn't a heroic character.
