Brando as Fletcher; Hopkins as Bligh
Would have been the dream paring. Though Mel Gibson and (certainly) Trevor Howard can't be far behind. Never was very attached to the 1935 version...Clark Gable (with all due respect) is all kinds of "whatever" IMHO.
Given the choice I'll take this 1962 version based on the above as well as Richard Harris' contribution. TCM's Robert Osborne once said on The Essentials that Marlon Brando's performance detracted from the 1962 version...but I'd disagree. When the man was physically in shape he never failed in a role.
