No computer generated tricks.
I just watched this film and the special effects were awsome. It was a treat seeing a film withhout all the computer generated crap they throw at movie goers today. It was real not fake and it was obvious.

shareA 23-year-old guy I worked with happened to see this last month. "I didn't know they could do CGI back then!" he raved. "They didn't," I answered. "You actually used real people in crowd scenes and real water in storm scenes." The kid just shook his head. I think I'll lend him a copy of BEN-HUR!
shareBoth Ben-Hur and Mutiny have tons of special effects, especially Ben-Hur. They're just not digital.
shareYeah, but it's glorious to see when the Tahitians paddle out from shore to greet the Bounty, it's all real paddlers in real canoes in real Pacific water, in splendid real tropical sunlight. No cartoon paddlers ;)
shareCouldn't agree more. Before GCI, filmmakers used models and reality (the funeral scene in "Ghandi," GCI has ruined many a picture for me.
