Small point

Shouldnt the Bounty be flying the white ensign, not the red one?

reply

The white ensign was not reserved for the Royal Navy until the late 19th Century, if that's what you're thinking of.

The ensigns flown by Royal Navy ships of this era differed depending upon which squadron they were part of. There were three squadrons - red, white and blue - and hence three ensigns.

From Wikipedia
' … The red squadron tended to patrol the Caribbean and north Atlantic, the white the coasts of Britain, France and the Mediterranean, while the blue patrolled the south Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans. ….'
