Ron Howard, around the time of THE MUSIC MAN and THE COURTSHIP OF EDDIE'S FATHER, was one of the best kid actors who ever worked in the business. He was absolutely terrific in both movies, and I don't think he ever got the recognition he deserved for his work.

HAROLD HILL: You're a wonderful kid. I thought so from the first; that's why I wanted you in the band - so you'd stop mopin' around and feelin' sorry for yourself.

WINTHROP (unmoved): What band?

HAROLD HILL (a pause): I always think there's a band, kid.

I didn't know Ron Howard was acting in this movie before I rented it. It was weird to look at that little red-haired kid knowing he would become an important filmmaker.
