Jokes from Captain Billy's Whiz Bang

I've been deep into the message board here & noticed that someone in 2005 wanted to know if anybody had ever read Captain Billy's Whiz Bang ("Is he memorizing jokes from Captain Billy's Whiz Bang"-Trouble). I thought some of you might like to know what these jokes were like, but I doubt if many people would be looking at responses to a 2005 posting, so I'm starting a new topic. I could tell you a lot about it but then this would turn into too long an article.

Captain Billy was William Fawcett; he had been a Captain in WWI, and his company grew from only the Whiz Bang to become the huge Fawcett Press. For more, Google it. It was racy for it's day and often found in barbershops. Jokes could be long anecdotes or most often, one-liners. There was usually an editorial, "Drippings From the Fawcett" often against Prohibition. Sample:"What I am trying to get at is that the smellers & the sniffers have filled the Great American Saps with the baloney that Rural America is unanimously for Prohibition."
Clean Joke: "A Clergyman is about to say a prayer before the opening of Congress. Newspaperman says - Reverend, are you going to pray for the senators?Clergyman looks out over the faces of the senators and says - No, I'm going to pray for the people.
Racy one-liners: "Some girls think the Lamp of Knowledge burns on the hind of a parked car."
"Hose - What a man uses to raise flowers & a woman to raise interest." etc.

There was also a "centerfold" inside, which was easy to remove from the staples for restricted markets. In the issue I have it has four illustrations with captions: A Windy Day: a man's umbrella blows inside out, a comely young woman's skirt is blown up to reveal a glimbse of panties - The Caption: "It's an ill wind that blows no good".
An old British Aristocrat walks down the aisle with a pretty young girl - The Caption: "Old Gold & Lucky Strike" - (two popular cigarette brands of the day). Very irreverent for it's day. Just thought you people might find this interesting.

Meredith Wilson makes a reference to Capt. Billy's Whiz Bang in the song "Trouble," however the musical takes place in 1912 — seven years before Whiz Bang was published!

This is a point that has been argued MANY times before.

Can you scan and post some pictures? Upload them to imgshack and link them? I think they'd be really fun to see.
