roman polanski is perfectly suited to handle this ultimate subject which should suit his turf. kubrick only did half decent work but polanksi can not only capture the subtext but he can also capture the physical aspect of it without bordering on porn, prude and vulgar and still being all that like lolita was!
it could go down as his last masterpiece!
I was thinking more of Neil Jordan.
He is great with sex scenes and controversy. He did a great job with The end of the affair and The tv series Borgias
Actually I was thinking that it would be fun if Adrian Lyne made a third version of The End of the Affair and Neil Jordan now made Lolita.
neil cannot be as mature as roman. Roman makes woman highly sophisticated and mercurial like none other. he does not dwell that much on sex scenes but the mood, the mannerism, the style is just out of this world( repulsion, cul de sac, rosemary. jesus!).
lolita novel is quite dirty in lot of places if I recall correctly. it is hard to put on celluloid without bordering upon porn! And it being a story about a gal gone wrong does not make it any easier! It is quite a challenge!
Maybe I need to see more if roman Polanski's work
It's wrong from my part but my idea of him is more of someone who makes more historical and war movies thanks to his great work with the pianist than someone interested in making something like Lolita.
For me he is still the director of The Pianist.
So that's why I thou Neil Jordan is the right one, he is quite similar to Adrian Lyne and that's what a film like this needs.
hell no. he shows all the complexity of a human mannerism- replusive, cul-desac, rose mary baby,china town,death and maiden( his woman are strong, sexy, beautiful and troubled souls). you cant miss roman!
