Jean and John were swingers, right?
Where they trying to get a foursome going with Charlotte and Humbert?
They're "adventurous". Sure. "Adventurous"

Sure sounded like it.
shareI thought the same as well, since she clamied they were "open minded" lol
shareThey were most definitely swingers. Humbert caught on real quick and this was one of the reasons he did not approve of Lolita spending the night at their home.
That said, I much prefer the subtle approach used in this film as opposed to the "in your face" approach found in most movies today.
"Don't tell me your little problems son, all I'm interested in is results."
I've seen pornos that started out like that scene, ha ha.
But yeah, to me it was quite clear what she was talking about.
Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!
I just thought John was gay and Jean found it her duty to get her husband laid, while also getting her rocks off.
shareWhen Jean says "We're both very broad-minded," it may have been something as simple (by today's standards) as approving of Humbert and Charlotte living together in the same house and having sex. I can remember even in 1970 it was a shock to hear of a couple living together. ("in sin" as they used to say)
After all, Jean is trying to put the point across to Humbert that Charlotte has the major hots for him. "She's beginning to radiate a certain... glow." She didn't mean there was plutonium in Charlotte's basement.
To put it bluntly, Jean is telling Humbert to go ahead and hop in the sack with Charlotte, and not to try to hide anything from Jean and John, because they're very broad-minded.
That was my take.
Wishful thinking. Humbert's VERY on to them and rather disgusted - a sophisticated European would not bat an eyelash at the situation you are outlining.
shareWishful thinking? That makes me wonder what kind of person I'm corresponding with... but nevertheless, here goes:
Humbert is disgusted because Jean is constantly grabbing and pawing at him, and he doesn't find her even remotely attractive. And since Jean is American, it doesn't really matter what reaction a European might have (as if they would all have the same reaction...?)
You are right. Actually i believe that this movie is dirtier than the book because all the insinuations and things not told that makes you imagine worst things that actually happens.
