Nurse Mary

I have watched this version of Lolita several times, and I've often wondered about the 'Nurse Mary' character. Were the notes on the table indeed hers, or were they from Clare Quilty to Lolita? Am I correct the sunglasses are Quilty's or perhaps those of Vivian Darkbloom? Of course one could say that Hum's paranoia leads him to believe that Lolita & Mary are sharing the "Crummiest of confessions!' But are his fears
correct? I just wondered what others take was on this character!

Your questions reflect back to the novel. Yes, Lo had told the nurse enough of her story to get her to aid in helping her get away from Humbert. You are correct that the notes and glasses were Quilties. The character of Vivian Darkbloom is just a reference in the novel, but for this film Krubrik made her a tangible character.
